About This Item

West Union, Iowa - Deeply Connected

This geocoin commemorates and celebrates an ambitious project by the community of West Union, Iowa located in the beautiful Northeast corner of our state.  Our town became a Main Street Community in 2006, was selected as a Green Pilot Community in 2008 and was named an Iowa Great Place in 2009!

Our project is a downtown Green Streetscape Project incorporating porous pavers for our sidewalks and streets, rain gardens, bioswales and implementing a district wide geothermal system.  By incorporating these green components, it our hope to better manage storm water runoff as well as utilizing effective energy solutions for our downtown community.

Our motto, "Deeply Connected" reflects our quality of life values of being connected to our agricultural history, our strong sense of community and our commitment to our past, present and vision for the future!

We broke ground October 2010 and plan to complete the renovation by 2012.

Found this on the Octoaro Creek Trail... did some fishing today and happened to notice there was some easy caches near by being new to the game i was excited to see some nearby that I could easily retrieve. Upon coming across the first cache i found the coin read the description and decide to take it home. Next weekend ill be going out again to find caches and i plan on moving it along. This is a really cool thing and im beyond stoked to have found one so soon
