Dropped in Bats Catch Trains? (GC2E761) This is a Geocache along the long disused Ferny Grove - Dayboro Rail Line, SE QLD.
On 25 September 1920 a railway line to Dayboro was opened, running through Samford from Ferny Grove. There were a number of stations servicing the line, including at Kobble Creek, Samsonvale, and Samford. The line serviced Dayboro and surrounding areas for 35 years, continuing to operate until 1 July 1955 when it closed due to declining traffic, largely from the increased access to the area by road traffic
A section of the line can be walked or ridden north from Currawong Road. It leads to the entrance to a railway tunnel under Mount Samson Road. The far end of the tunnel has been blocked and it is now used by Queensland University to study the resident bat colony. The Geocache is located right above this tunnel!
