This is a Florin, 2 Bob or 2 shillings, it was worth 24 old Penny and comes from pre decimalisation Britain. This coin was minted in the rign of King George 6th and is dated 1947.
The word shilling comes from schilling, an accounting term that dates back to Anglo-Saxon times where it was deemed to be the value of a cow in Kent or a sheep elsewhere. The word is thought to derive from the base skell-, "to ring/resound" and the diminutive suffix -ing.
