In 1985 the video game company, Nintendo, released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) to North America. It was a family centered video game entertainment system with a wide verity of games to choose from. Before hand, home video game systems came as one with the system (Ex: Pong), or you would have to step into an arcade and cough up quarters to play.
Distructive use of ones time? Or advanced entertainment? It's all opinon and everyone has one.
But from 1985 using 8bit graphics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpk5U70MQBg, to 2013, now bluring the lines between theater cinima and video games using famous actors such as William Defoe and Ellen Page playing in-game characters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKmj84BKsyc. It's safe to say video games have come a long way!
