Current Goal

MISSION:
August - south to Mexico
Spring - north to Canada

The Monarch is famous for its southward migration and northward return in summer from Canada to Mexico which spans the life of three to four generations of the butterfly.  In North America they make massive southward migrations, to the sanctuaries of the Mariposa Monarca Biosphere Reserve in the Mexican states of Michoacán and México, starting in August until the first frost.  A northward migration takes place in the spring.
The monarch is the only butterfly that migrates both north and south as the birds do on a regular basis. But no single individual makes the entire round trip. Female monarchs deposit eggs for the next generation during these migrations.  How the species manages to return to the same overwintering spots over a gap of several generations is still a subject of research.

TRANSLATION (http://translation2.paralink.com/)
MISIÓN: agosto, sur a México; Primavera, norte a Canadá.

Didn't read the mission on this travel bug till after we had left with it. I was planning on taking it to Alaska with me but I think it may be a bit too cold for a Monarch. Will try to place it closer to the border to head towards Mexico.

Really like the idea of following the migration path of the monarch butterfly. I hope it continues to meet it's goals.

In Canada for the spring, so perhaps will fly a little further north before heading back towards Mexico later in the year.
