About This Item

Side 1

This is a copy of the collectible coin that was given out to re-enactors (and which could be purchased by visitors) at the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg re-enactment.  The battle was July 1-3, 1863, and the re-enactment in which we participated was July 4-7, 2013.  The original coin is not a trackable geocoin, but I wanted such a coin, couldn't find one, and created this instead.  Please post photos of this "coin" from as many Civil War sites as it can get to before the end of the 150th anniversary of the war.  Unfortunately, it's beginning its journey from Washington state so it has a long way to go to get to any sites!

PharmDude and I are both descendents of many Civil War veterans. PharmDude's were all from Pennsylvania and one of his great-great-grandfathers was among the first to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery after being killed in the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, in 1864.  My ancestors fought on both sides, and I have many great-uncles and 1st cousins several times removed who fought at Gettysburg.  One was mortally wounded there, fighting for Georgia and the Confederacy.  One of my Northern great-great-great-grandfathers fought from Michigan and died of typhoid. We're sending this out to honor our ancestors who fought, and their wives who stayed home to keep the farms going and raise the children during that horrible, bloody time in our nation's history.
