Sharky is a participant in the "Gänseliesel Race 2011".
Please keep Sharky moving as far and as fast as you can.
If you pick him up, please either take him somewhere very far away, or drop him quickly into another frequently used cache. Please do not hold on to him for a very long time unless you are planning to take him somewhere very far away!
Dipping Sharky in one other cache ("visited") before you drop him off gives us some extra racing points - YEAH! Thanks so much!

Sharks are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a highlystreamlined body. The earliest known sharks date from more than 420 million years ago.
Since that time, sharks have diversified into 440 species, ranging in size from the small dwarf lanternshark, a deep sea species of only 17 centimetres (6.7 in) in length, to the whale shark, the largest fish, which reaches approximately 12 metres (39 ft 4 in) and which feeds only on plankton, squid, and small fish by filter feeding. Sharks are found in all seas and are common down to depths of 2,000 metres (6,600 ft). They generally do not live in freshwater, with a few exceptions such as the bull shark and the river shark which can live both in seawater and freshwater. They breathe through five to seven gill slits. Sharks have a covering of dermal denticles that protects their skin from damage andparasites, and improves their fluid dynamics so the shark can move faster. They have several sets of replaceable teeth.
Well-known species such as the great white shark, tiger shark, and the hammerhead are apex predators, at the top of the underwater food chain. Their extraordinary skills as predators fascinate and frighten humans, even as their survival is under serious threat from fishing and other human activities.
Contrary to popular belief, only a few sharks are dangerous to humans. Out of more than 360 species, only four have been involved in a significant number of fatal, unprovoked attacks on humans: the great white, oceanic whitetip, tiger, and bull sharks. These sharks, are large, powerful predators, and may sometimes attack and kill people. Despite being responsible for attacks on humans they have all been filmed without using a protective cage.
The perception of sharks as dangerous animals has been popularized by publicity given to a few isolated unprovoked attacks, such as the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916, and through popular fictional works about shark attacks, such as the Jaws film series. Jaws author Peter Benchley in his later years attempted to dispel the image of sharks as man-eating monsters. read more ...
