About This Item

medic13.jpeg

The owner of this Travel Bug is a paramedic for Middlesex Hospital in Middletown CT www.middlesexparamedics.org. This bug is a replica of the shield that he wears on his helmet. Yes, his badge number is 13 and it has served him well since 1988 being his lucky number and seeing him through a lot of changes.

If you pick this one up try to take a picture of it with the nearest paramedic unit you can.

If you are a paramedic let this bug put on a few miles with you riding in the streets. There is no better way to see the true character of a town or city than by spending some time riding with EMS. If this bug does ride along let me know what you think is unusual, special, or unique about your system.

Questions about this bug or it's mission can be emailed to medic13@themacmedic.us.

With more than a year passed since Medic 13 goes North was last seen it is with deep regret that I have to officially declare it Missing in Action. I still have some hope that it will surface again and I will keep looking.

We decided that this spot was worthy of this TB. The location is pretty remote, but we thought that Medic 13 would like to see the kind of location that a ski patroller may have to work in and then figure out a way to get a patient down to the ambulance with the paramedics! Hopefully somebody will rescue this TB before the fall; if not, we'll make a trip back up to keep it moving along before winter -- this would be a cold place to spend a long Maine winter!

We took the Medic 13 TB down to the shores of Big Upper Cold Stream Pond in Lincoln, Maine. Even though this isn't the best path to Iceland, it's quite a bit farther north than we found Medic 13, and quite a bit colder, too!

We gave Medic 13 TB a warm welcome on behalf of the Crotched Mountain Ski Patrol! Although we're not paramedics, we are glad to serve our part as being the first responders in the EMT system on Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire! We can't really take Medic 13 for a ride with us, as the snow is finally gone on the hill. Maybe if we see the TB up in New England again in the winter, we'll give the TB a ride in a toboggan!

We'll keep the TB moving along soon...

  • With the Seekers on Crotched Mountain Ski Patrol No patients to help today, but a nice day at the lake!
  • CMSP Patrollers and Medic 13 We'd be glad to hand off our care to the Paramedics of Middlesex Hospital in Middletown CT. Let us know if you're up at Crotched Mountain in NH to say hi!

When reading cache descriptions to decide which caches we should visit along a quick trip up to northern Maine, we read about this TB, and made a special stop just to grab it. More stories before long...
