Nevada Day is being released on Nevaday Day 2006 (October 31st). It would like to visit all 50 states but is free to travel wherever cachers want to take it. It is intended to give people a little information about our state. Please do not take this coin if you cannot move it along quickly.
When is Nevada Day? Nevada became a state (admitted to the Union) October 31, 1864, so Nevada Day is October 31st.of each year.
Nevada Day is presently a state holiday recognized on the last Friday in October with the parade on the Saturday following. Here are some other interesting facts about Nevada.........
Bugsy Siegel named his Las Vegas casino "The Flamingo" for the long legs of his showgirl sweetheart, Virginia Hill.
In 1899 Charles Fey invented a slot machine named the Liberty Bell. The device became the model for all slots to follow.
There were 16,067 slots in Nevada in 1960. In 1999 Nevada had 205,726 slot machines, one for every 10 residents.
In Tonopah the young Jack Dempsey was once the bartender and the bouncer at the still popular Mispah Hotel and Casino. Famous lawman and folk hero Wyatt Earp once kept the peace in the town.
