The goal for this Travel Tag...A tribute to law enforcement! Share a story of a hero and take a picture or two.
GOAL #1:
Travel to Washington DC and visit the
National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The memorial is centered in the 400 block of E Street, NW, Washington, DC and is the nation’s monument to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Dedicated on October 15, 1991, the Memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people.
GOAL #2:
Travel to Washington DC and visit the National Law Enforcement Museum. The Museum is located at 901 E Street, NW, Suite 100 Washington, DC. The Museum tells the story of American law enforcement through exhibits, collections, research and education. The Museum dynamically engages the broadest possible audience in this story in an effort to build mutual respect and foster cooperation between the public and the law enforcement profession. By doing so, the Museum contributes to a safer society and serves to uphold the democratic ideals of the U.S. Constitution.
GOAL #3:
Travel the Globe!! As this guy travels the globe, please share a story about your hero and take a picture or two if you wish.
Today in the United States, some 900,000 law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for the safety and protection of others. They serve with valor and distinction – and with great success. Federal statistics show that violent and property crime rates in the United States are at historic lows, thanks in large measure to the dedicated service of the men and women of law enforcement.
That protection comes at a price, however. Each year, there are approximately 60,000 assaults on law enforcement officers, resulting in nearly 16,000 injuries. Sadly, over the last decade, an average of 160 officers a year have been killed in the line of duty. And throughout U.S. history, over 19,000 law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.
At the start of 2011, a tragic wave of violence raged against America’s law enforcement officers, with 11 officers shot within a 24-hour time frame. As a result, the
National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund asked supporters to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our law enforcement community by signing the
Stand with the Thin Blue Line pledge.
Over 10,000 individuals responded immediately, sending a message that violence against law enforcement officers should not be tolerated. Unfortunately, law enforcement fatalities rose even higher in 2011, reaching 172 officer fatalities by year’s end.
Stand with the Thin Blue Line by
writing a special “thank you” message to America’s law enforcement heroes. Let them know that you support their efforts to keep our communities safe. Show them that you care!
These men and women put their lives on the line for us every day, to ensure our safety, and we must stand in support of law enforcement. Please
Stand with the Thin Blue Line and
add your name to the growing list of individuals who are tired of the violence against America's law enforcement heroes. Help show the law enforcement community that we stand by them.
"It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived."
—Vivian Eney Cross, Survivor
"In valor there is hope."
—Tacitus
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
—Proverbs 28:1
"Carved on these walls is the story of America, of a continuing quest to preserve both democracy and decency, and to protect a national treasure that we call the American dream."
—President George H.W. Bush
