Arrrr! My own personal geocoin!
I took part in the 2011 Mini-Doubloon project hosted by Jackalgirl. The basic design of the doubloon was hers; our job was to design our own - from color combinations used to the metal and finish of the coin.
As my first coin, I chose what probably most people would expect of someone who calls herself Azure Sky - Blue! I went with the lighter shade of blue, as it was the closest color to a nice blue sky. The "X" I really wanted black, to help bring out the blue and accentuate the shiny gold metal. The trickiest part for me was the rose, or "star" pattern. Should I go with glitter, or just an enamel? I chose glitter, as I wanted the coin to shine even more. My first choice was white, until I saw another crew member's coin had almost the same colors, so I had to choose another color. Hmm...how about a yellowish gold? I was a bit concerned that it would be too similar to the shiny gold color of the metal, but tried it anyways. Blue and gold were my high school colors. So, after the selections were made, Jackalgirl showed us what the coin would look like with the colors chosen. I accepted the choices I made, then waited on pins and needles for weeks until the actual coin was produced.
..and it looks even better than I'd hoped! The yellow gold glitter is different enough in color from the shiny gold metal that it really worked out great!
After this experience, I'm really looking forward to the next doubloon project. Thank you, Cap'n Jackalgirl!
