This travel bug only spent a day in the unpublished cache, "Sunset View -- Will You Marry Me?" because just over 24 hours after it and the cache were placed, Ben of solid-rock-seekwells proposed to his girlfriend Bridget, who was under the impression that the cache was a traditional FTF. Turns out, the cache contained an engagement ring and had been placed there by Ben himself, with the help of Mr. Seeker of the solid-rock-seekers! The story of our engagement from the cache page is copied below. The traveler has since come to Illinois with me, adding many miles!
On December 21st, Mr. Seeker of the solid-rock-seekers and I (Ben of the solid-rock-seekwells) traveled to Kennebunkport to place this cache. I liked the idea of using a geocache to propose to my girlfriend Bridget, and had selected this location due to the potential for a beautiful sunset view over the bay. Because my favorite aspect of geocaching is chasing FTFs (as documented in the solid-rock-seekwells' FTF bookmark list), and Bridget enjoys chasing FTFs with me, I came up with a plan to propose through this "First-To-Find" geocache.
I decided to place a ring box with Bridget's name on it in a cache as the "First-To-Find" prize, with an inexpensive ring inside. After discussing this plan with my parents, the solid-rock-seekers, and enlisting their help, Mr. Seeker and I drove to Kennebunkport and placed the cache in the best place we could find. The next day I asked Bridget out on a geocaching date day near the seacoast. After a few hours of caching, Mr. Seeker placed a pre-arranged call to me to alert us of a “new FTF” called “Sunset View,” available in the seacoast area. I then gave the phone to Bridget to the get the coordinates for the new cache. Since we love chasing FTFs (this would be our normal course of action on a geocaching date), we deviated from our "planned caches," and drove to Kennebunkport.
Arriving shortly after sunset, Bridget found the cache, opened the container, and said yes after I pulled the real ring from my pocket and proposed!
Despite the cold, wind, and dark, we took a number of pictures at the location before re-hiding the cache container.
