Current Goal

Originally this geocoin was to travel to every state in the USA which grows cotton. And at the end of 2008 this geocoin was to return to its "home" by being placed in any cache in the Memphis, Tennessee area.

The original geocoin "disappeared." Now the replacement geocoin simply wants to travel a lot, a remembrance of the original coin which apparently someone kept.

About This Item

The original version of this geocoin had this mission:

China buys more raw cotton fiber from the USA than does any other country. This geocoin wants to visit the cotton-growing areas in the USA.

The original geocoin went missing. The replacement geocoin wants to travel anywhere to remind people not to keep geocoins but to move them.

I'm no expert, but I have been to China, and I don't think this coin looks very Chinese. I have a theory, though, which I will test in two weeks. I think I can move this coin quite a bit closer to the pictured obelisk. I don't think they grow cotton there, but I think this Chinese coin will feel right at home.

Why in the world would someone take coins anyway? What could you do with them? You'd never be able to show them off, because someone would discover them, then there would be a record of where it is. All you could do is keep them hidden in the bottom of your sock drawer. Where's the fun in that?

I'll move this one along.

If I really like a coin I find, I try to find one of my own and buy it. I feel bad for the owner of the original china coin because they can be hard to come by.

I'm an affionado of geocoins, too. I have purchased over 250 of them and more than half have gone missing. After investing all that money, I've stopped doing it. I can't afford to supply a bunch of lazy bums with coins. Hope this one keeps going.

I hope this one doesn't go missing as the cache I placed it in was looted of three gc's before I got there.

found this today, will move it to next decent cache I find (don't want to drop it in a cache to close to muggles) remind me if I hold onto it for more than a couple of weeks to get it going!

The original geocoin "disappeared" in the field in Sept., 2006 after only a very short "life." So I am "virtually" grabbing it and will replace it in the field with another coin so that - through the tracking # - this one can continue its life. We'll see how long it lasts this time.
