Travelbug je libovolná věc doplněná o kovový identifikační štítek, zvaný psí známka (z angl. dog tag). Travelbug není předmětem běžné výměny, jako jiné věci umístěné za tímto účelem v cache, ale jeho cílem je putovat z cache do cache. Proto si travelbug neponechávejte, ale přemístěte jej do jiné cache. Platí nepsané pravidlo, že travelbug můžete u sebe držet maximálně 14 dní, pak ho vložte do cache nebo napište majiteli e-mail o svých plánech (např. za měsíc jedu do zahraničí, kde ho umístím do cache, atd.). Za jejich vyjmutí z cache není nutno do ní nic jiného vložit (a naopak, vložením TB nebo GC nevzniká právo si z cache vzít něco jiného).

Rozlišujeme Tracking Number (kód vyražený na štítku; nikdy se nemá zveřejňovat, ani v diskusním fóru!) a identifikační kód ve tvaru TBxxxx. Při vyhledávání TB na www.geocaching.com/track můžete použít jak Tracking Number, tak identifikační kód. Pokud se ale chcete v logu nebo ve fóru odkazovat na TB, použijte identifikační kód, který naleznete v levé horní části internetové stránky (listingu) konkrétního travelbugu.
