My mission to have my picture taken opening as many different types of beer as possible. Please use me to open a bottle and take a picture, then upload it to the gallery. I'm one of many bottle opener travelers in a race to open the biggest variety of beers, so please be sure to put me back in a new cache!
The Coastal Extreme Brewing Company was founded in 1999 by four college friends and produces beer under the label Newport Storm. At the time no other micro-breweries were operating in Rhode Island. The Hurricane Amber Ale was the first beer brewed and remains the flagship beer of the brewery. In addition to the rotating Storms of the Season beers, Newport Storm brews limited release beers in the Cyclone Series. Each beer is brewed and named sequentially, like tropical storms. The Cyclone Series began with certain extreme beers, such as Alyssa, an extreme brown ale and Derek, and extreme stout. Others include Ophelia, a peach ale, and Quinn, a rum barrel-aged porter.
In 2006 Coastal Extreme Brewing expanded to include a distillery, producing Thomas Tew Rum. The rum is produced in a way to replicate the way rum would have been distilled in the old days of Newport.
Tours and tastings are generaly available at the brewery and distillery seven days a week from 12-5pm. Stop by and see how they produce more than 5,000 barrels of beer a year.
