Moin,

At today's "Third Climbing in the Park Event" near Schwedt, I met poseptun, a cacher from Mirow, 100 kilometres away, who has the same passion as I do: he collects geocoins.

We had met before and I was able to see a small part of his very interesting collection.
Since I knew that he had managed to bring a complete set of the legendary Moun10Bike geocoins to the Mecklenburg Lake District, I naturally wanted to get some information about them from poseptun.

How surprised I was then when he took a box out of his backpack and opened it.
A real treasure beamed at me - the complete collection of Moun10Bike geocoins.

I saw the first "Moun10Bikes" behind glass 9 years ago in September at the "GEOCOINFEST EUROPE 2013" in Prague and marvelled at this first Geocoin even then.
In the following years, I was able to hold and discover a few more of these very special coins at meetings with reviewers, at geocoin events or with geocoin friends.

But the surprise today surpassed everything I had experienced so far. Actually, the situation was like in the first years of geocaching. The coins were not shown at a big MEGA event or at a geocoiners' meeting, but out in the open in nature. Only the Ammobox was missing, in which a Moun10Bike could be discovered.

Of course I looked at all the coins, experienced this uniqueness with all my senses, even if in an uncomfortable position.

Now, while logging, I was amazed for the second time. I am the first person to be allowed to discovern this treasure here in the east of Germany.
It is a great honour for me that Rolf has given me this pleasure and I thank him very much.

Best wishes also to Moun10Bike himself, who wrote geocaching history with his idea.
I would be very happy to meet him in person this summer in Abbotsford or Seattle.

Sincerely Karl-Heinz aka Compubaer

Herzlichst Karl-Heinz aka Compubaer

"This is the one that started it all - the world's first geocoin. The idea came about as I was looking for a special signature item to create for my upcoming 100th cache find. A fellow geocacher turned me on to military challenge coins and they seemed ideal for a signature item - durable, easy to carry, and unique. I did some research and found out that there were a number of places on the Web that could mint custom coins. I sent my design idea to D&R Military Specialties and before long had my first batch of 100 coins in hand. On September 30, 2001, I set out with Jeremy to hunt down what is still to this day one of my most memorable caches, Light House Point (GC126C). As planned, I placed the first of the coins - #002 - into this cache to celebrate my milestone. Jeremy was just in the process of unveiling Travel Bugs on Geocaching.com and graciously offered to track the coins on the website using the numbers that were engraved in the coins.

I'm sorry for the deletion of the last log, but it is in error. There are many coins and other items with numbering, but that does not mean that everything with a given number is the item tracked with that number on Geocaching.com. My older coins are among the very first traveling items on Geocaching.com and used sequential numbers which are the source of this issue; you will note that nowadays everything tracked on the site - including my newer coins - use random alphanumeric codes for tracking instead in order to prevent confusion.

I am going to [red]lock[/red] this coin so it can no longer be logged in error.

I hope this explains things, and thank you for your understanding.

Just so everyone knows, I have contacted moun10bike and let him know that I will be keeping this coin for my own geocoin collection.
