Trailblazer Choo-Choo will be heading west to Arizona this week. He will be visiting the settlement of Casa Grande dating from the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in May of 1879. When the work stoppage occurred, a temporary camp called "Terminus" (end of the line) was established at the railhead. In September 1880, Southern Pacific executives renamed the settlement "Casa Grande," after the prehistoric ruins located 20 miles northeast of town. We'll upload photos soon!

  • On the main line Trailblazer is resting on the tracks at the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot. This depot building was dedicated in 1940 for service during the war years. In 1945, passenger service to Casa Grande was discontinued and it was used as a freight depot and office. Today, it is used by the City as a storage facility.
  • The Original Terminus Depot in 1879 This two-story depot building was destroyed by fire in 1937.
