Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah.
This area is very cool! The ancient Lake Bonneville dried up and left a thick crust of flat salt that can be driven on when dry. We drove through rain and snow on the way here, and the flats were wet. We saw someone following a tow truck out of the flats, and more vehicles driving out even though they were wet. Would’ve loved to see the flats in bright sunshine, but I’m happy with the cloud cover!
Another interesting fact: Since 1949, the raceway on the Bonneville Salt Flats is the standard course for world land speed records. On this natural straightaway, the 300, 400, 500, and 600 mile-per-hour land speed barriers were broken.
