Current Goal

The Connecticut Robin would like to travel to Michigan and Wisconsin, so he can visit the other states that honor him. If that is not possible, he would like to travel to any area were robins could be seen.

About This Item

The Connecticut Robin

How do you know when spring will come? Not that big rat in Pennsylvania. I know spring in coming to Connecticut when I see my first robin.

The robin ranges from Florida into Alaska and is well adapted to backyards. The American robin was familiar even to the first New World colonists from England. They called it a “robin” because of its resemblance to the English robin. It’s actually a thrush.

In many locales, robins are even familiar in winter. As the scientific name, Turdus migratorius, implies, many robins do fly south as winter approaches. However many New England robins stay put, feeding on winter berries.

The robin is the state bird of Connecticut, Michigan and Wisconsin.

My wife, kids and myself all went after this travel bug and took him out of the Hill Cemetery Cache. He is in good hands and we will enjoy him for a short bit before letting him free on his journey again.
