The "Quint" is a ladder truck or aerial apparatus that also functions as a primary response engine. Many ladder trucks have a specific function to support engine companies by providing ladders for access, ventilation, and search teams. The Quint is an engine company and a ladder compnay, providing the dual-role makes this unit more flexible, but less specialized. This unit would respond to fires, medicals, and common rescues ( such as a motor-vehicle accident ) just like any standard engine would, but may also be dispatched to large incidents where the ladder capabilities might be needed. Because of the dual-role, this apparatus carries a variety of equipment, enabling it to address a variety of situations.
