From this cache site you could see another place that was important to the travelers of the Oregon Trail. When the travelers reached Chimney Rocks they knew that they were leaving the plains and would be climbing the Rocky Mountains. The hope was to reach this spot by the last week or June or first week of July, because if they reached this spot any later they might hit the snow storms that would hit the Rocky Mountain in September. The travelers of the Oregon Trail would travel between 10 to 15, sometimes 20 miles per day (if thing were going very well).
