About This Item

Hollandse klompen

Dutch Clogs/ Wooden shoes

A native Dutch product? Holland is widely known fot its wooden shoes. Nowadays these wooden shoes are only worn by al select amount of people in the country side. There are still al lot of wooden shoes made for the tourism industry in many different sizes and not only from wood but also from the famous ‘Delfts blauw’.

The real clogs are made of poplar or willow wood. Traditional the clogs were often painted yellow with different kinds of decorations variable from city to city. Usually unpainted clogs were worn during the week. Going to church the men wore black painted clogs and the women wore clogs decorated with various flowers.  The clogs for the tourism industry are often painted with other typical dutch products like windmills and tullips.

    • I saw this neat little trackable while I was group-caching with its current holder-of-record, MathAdams, and also with GalinaF. We spent 4-5 hours hiking the up & down the Mohawk Trail on Coltsfoot Mountain in the Wyantenock State Forest of Cornwall, CT on this scorchingly hot & humid Friday. MANY calories were burned.
