Cecil’s the name, travelling was my game
Ain’t coated in slime and just speak in rhyme
So glad you’ve found me it’s time to go home
Finch Foundry’s the place, no more can I roam
Forged out of metal with a house on my back
No phone to call home just a tag to keep track
Speed is an issue so I need a piggyback
By rucksack, horseback, kayak or tarmac
The snail you hold was forged by Sy21687 at the National Trust's Finch Foundry on 14/10/2015. Finch Foundry is a 19th-century water-powered forge situated in the village of Sticklepath near Okehampton, Devon, England. It was originally used to produce agricultural and mining hand tools and at its peak produced around 400 edge tools a day. It remained an active foundry until 1960 when the roof collapsed and has been a National Trust property since 1994 (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/finch-foundry/). It contains examples of a tilt hammer, drop hammer, and shear hammer all powered by the water wheels. The Trust maintains it in working order and demonstrations of the tools are given every hour.
The misson of this travel bug is to return it to its origin (Finch Foundry) or to the nearest cache (GC3J1DX) whilst trying to visit at least 12 different countries along the way. The time frame is to be back for the celebration of St Clement's (Patron Saint of Blacksmiths) Day 2017 (23rd November 2017).
