Der Templerorden (auch die Templer, Tempelritter oder Tempelherren genannt; ca. 1118 bis ca. 1312) wurde um 1118 gegründet und war ein geistlicher Ritterorden, der in Folge des Ersten Kreuzzugs entstand.

Ordensname:
Sein voller Name lautete Arme Ritterschaft Christi und des salomonischen Tempels zu Jerusalem (Pauperes commilitones Christi templique Salomonici Hierosalemitanis)

Das Motto lautete:
Non nobis Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam! (Nicht uns, o Herr, nicht uns, sondern Deinem Namen gib Ehre. Psalm 115,1)

Das Siegel trug die Inschrift:
SIGILLUM MILITUM CHRISTI (Siegel der Streiter Christi)
