About This Item

In the days of Nelson's navy, a ship was cleared for action by stripping down all the partitions along each of the decks. The cabins - even the Captain's quarters - disappeared to create a "clean sweep" from stem to stern.

And the naval passion for a "clean sweep" extended to a positively obsessional approach to "housework". Each morning the decks of a naval vessel would be cleaned with abrasives ("holystones") and water, thus revealing a fresh layer of timber.

Thankfully, modern CITO events are more sensitive to the balance in the environment!

Do you have stories about strange things found when cleaning up your local patch?

Or do you just want to log the coin and move it along?

Either is fine!

I've not attended a CITO event, so should feel a bit of a fraud picking this up. But I don't, because I'll slip it into a Bute cache when I am at the Beachwatch Bute cleanup next weekend! ๐Ÿ‘

Found two broken fish/eel/watersnake traps in the Water of Leith at the last CITO. Did people actually catch anything in them, I wonder?

Strange things picked up while clearing the local patch, eh? Funny you should ask..

At 'Scotland's First CITO Event', a short distance from my doorstep, I picked up several bags of rubbish. I also found a handsome, single, intelligent, sensitive cacher. His name is Jack Aubrey.

(We're going to have to stop this cheesy stuff, Jack. Other cachers must be completely hacked off by our incessant smoochings :))

Discovered It 4/22/2006 Haggis Hunter discovered it   Visit Log

On any CITO you are extremely likely to find a shopping trolley, as we did on the first CITO in Scotland. On the second CITO in Scotland we didn't just find a bed, but we also found the ensuite bath to go with it! ๐Ÿ˜
