About This Item

The tractor.

I am releasing this Travel Bug in memory of my Dad, J. Carrol McGarrigle, who passed away on March 11, 2010 from a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  My Dad owned a 1964 Massey Ferguson tractor, with some home made modifications (rear takeoffs, front bucket/plow attachment).  He loved this tractor.   He didn't have a big piece of property, or a large garden, but he used the tractor to move wood for the winter, plow the dooryard, get the garden ready for spring and fall, you name it.  There are many fond memories of riding on that tractor with my Dad, and watching my two oldest girls ride on it with him.

This summer, my mother sold the tractor and all the implements.  There really was no point in keeping it, as my brother and I never learned to drive it (my father's teaching method was "Do it right the first time, or get yelled at").  It is sad to see the garage where it was kept empty when I come home to visit.

I have been wanting to release a Travel Bug, but just couldn't find the right toy tractor.  That changed this summer, when my wife had to make a very sad trip to Mississippi for the passing of her 11-year old niece.  During the time she was there, she went to a farm supply store, and found this toy tractor.  I was almost moved to tears when I saw it; it is an almost a perfect replica of the tractor my Dad owned.

Please keep this Travel Bug moving!  Thanks!

I retrieved this TB from a cache a few weeks ago but I forgot to log it. First of all, I am very sorry for your loss but I thank you for releasing a TB in your father’s honor. To be honest, I was very excited when I saw that the hitchhiker on this TB was a tractor because I am a dairy farmer and it’s not too often that I find farm related things in geocaches! The TB is currently with me at my family’s dairy farm so mission accomplished (woo hoo!) but I plan to go out caching tomorrow so hopefully I can find a good cache to place it in and allow it to continue to travel along. Thanks for sharing your story and for making me smile! 😊
