To travel widely but maybe one day to make it back home to Kent, England
Chalkhill Blue (Lysandra coridon) is one of five blue butterfly travel bugs to be released during May 2012. The blue butterflies of the family Lycaenidae are commonly found in the south and south east of England on chalk soils. Their presence is a powerful indicator of good habitat management but many species of this family are endangered due to habitat loss and climatic variation. These five however are hardy pathfinders and some are due to be released as far away as the Orkney Islands off the northern coast of Scotland! The collective mission of these beautiful creatures is to travel widely and draw attention to the need to preserve the natural environment. Their progress will be carefully monitored. Wherever possible, please add photos of the sites where they land!
The complete squadron comprises Adonis Blue, Chalkhill Blue, Common Blue, Holly Blue and Small Blue .
