Les geckos ou Gekkonidae (parfois franciségeckonidés) forment une famille de lézards de taille modeste dont on rencontre les espèces dans de très nombreux pays.
Ce nom provient du malais « Gekoq », qui est uneonomatopée correspondant au cri d'un geckoindonésien 
.
Les geckos sont également qualifiés de lézard, terme qui regroupe en réalité de nombreux squamates.
Dans certains pays, ces animaux sont considérés comme sacrés, et portent bonheur. Dans d'autres, ils sont associés aux esprits et portent malheur (Uroplatus à Madagascar, par exemple). Ils sont aussi très appréciés car ils mangent les insectes nuisibles.
Geckos or Gekkonidae (sometimes gallicized geckonidés) train(form) a family of lizards of modest size(cutting) the sorts of which we meet in very numerous countries.
This name results from the Malay " Gekoq ", which is an onomatopoeia corresponding to the shout of an Indonesian gecko.
Geckos are also qualified as lizard, term which groups together(includes) in reality of numerous squamates.
In certain countries, these animals are considered as crowned, and carry(wear) happiness. In others, they are associated to the spirits and bring bad luck (Uroplatus in Madagascar, for example). They are also very appreciated because they eat pests.
