Current Goal

I am a small replica of the Liberty Bell, which has come symbolize independence & freedom in the United States of America. My goal is to travel to all 50 of the United States, and any other country where all citizens have the right to freedom and equality.

The original bell was cast in London and brought to Philadelphia in 1752. It was initially used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens to public meetings, proclamations and/or danger. It did not become known as the "Liberty Bell" until the mid 1800 when a story spread that it was rung on the first American Independence day, July 4, 1776. However, it was in fact NOT rung on that day. The Declaration of Independence was not read publicly until July 8, 1776, and on this day many bells were rung in celebration; the "Liberty Bell likely among them.

As for the crack; legend has it that a small crack started in the bell’s rim the first time it was rung. It was recast by a couple of inexperienced founders (Pass and Stow) who added copper to make the bell less brittle. The second version of the bell did not crack, however some of those assembled were displeased with its sound, so it was recast again. It was not long before another crack appeared for reasons that are not certain. In the end, we know that the second recasting process was done with inferior materials that were not well mixed, and perhaps the bell was mishandled a time or two.

I'm sure it has already been noted somewhere along the way that the bell is not with it but it is attached to a picture of the Liberty Bell. I see it has been in AZ for a few months, maybe I can move it on to New Mexico in a few days or near a freeway toward Cali. Let's see where freedom will ring next.
