2014 Middle Georgia Travel Bug Race
The Tick-Magnets are headed to Seattle for the the 2014 and will take all TBs with us and drop them in a cache there with best wishes for safe travels and great adventures!
One year from now (August 2015), we will meet again to give out some very cool prizes for the year-long race:
First TB to arrive back at Ga. Largest Ammo Can (GC3F3CW)
TB with the most miles logged
TB with the most photos added
TB that traveled to the most states/countries
TB that attended the most geo-events
TB with the most “Discovered” logs
TB with the longest single leap (distance in miles) between caches
If you have ever cached with The Tick-Magnets (or heard the stories of their zany adventures), you have most likely witnessed (or heard them speak of) "blue lights in the rearview mirror". You see, those magnetic cachers don't only attract ticks... they attract PLENTY of geo-po-pos!
Now... for the record... nearly all of the "stops" have been courtesy/couriousity stops. For example....
- A friendly (and maybe bored) officer that finds it odd that a couple of women with out of county license plates are shuffling their way through the underbrush of the woods... although he didn't find their stalking of several closed businesses within the city limits odd... so he decides to try to sneak up on them between the trees. And just so you know... he wasn't "bored" enough with his day job to stop and help look! He was asked. :)
- An officer that finds it odd that a van full of kids and a couple of Moms are headed down an old abandoned kaolin mine road in the middle of a school day (homeschool boy scout merit badge class)... so he pulls over the van to check things out. And just so you know... it turned out he was a scouter, too! And years later, that moment is STILL a favorite caching moment for the scouts in the van!
- And, more than once, the officers that have driven up to the parked (sometimes abandoned) geo-mobile on side of the road. TTMs are always grateful for the ones that nod and move on when they lift a GPSs up in the air to let the officers know in some "secret code" that they are just caching. Those officers that understand and just roll along! Other officers are introduced to the game! :)
Now... in their defense... sometimes the officers are with the TTMs because they were called. For example...
- The we-thought-he-was-dead homeless guy that wasn't dead after all! And just so you know... it was 100 degrees out and the man was wrapped up in a sleeping bag in a gazebo... his body slumped half in and half out of the building!
Now... just to be honest.... The TTMs have been pulled over for breaking the law, too. Sorry!
- Speeding may have been involved. :{ And just so you know... collectively, the TTMs only have one ticket! (Well, technically two... but Mac's ticket was thrown out because the officer was a little on the shady side... good thing one bad apple didn't spoil our pie!)
**The Tick-Magnets <3 the geo-po-po! They know the officers are there to keep them safe (and law-abiding!). Between the geo-po-po shrine Mac keeps in her geo-bag and this racer, the TTMS are hoping for GOOD cop-karma in their travels!**
