Rudolstadt ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Saalfeld-Rudolstadt im Freistaat Thüringen, Deutschland.
Die ehemalige fürstliche Residenz Rudolstadt liegt eingebettet in einem waldumgebenen Tal und zieht sich bandartig am weiten Bogen des Flusses Saale entlang.
Die Stadt wurde 776 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt und hat seit 1326 Stadtrecht. Ihr weithin sichtbares Wahrzeichen ist das Schloss Heidecksburg, das die Stadt überragt.
Rudolstadt is a town in the German Bundesland of Thuringia, close to the Thuringian Forest to the southwest, and to Jena and Weimar to the north.
The former capital of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, the town is built along the River Saale inside a wide valley surrounded by woods.
Rudolstadt was founded in 776 and has had municipal law since 1326. The town's landmark is the Castle Heidecksburg which is enthroned on a hill above the old town.
