Sorry it's taken me a few days to post, but the Beetle crossed the finish line on Merch 27, and, unfortunately, I had carpal tunnel sugery on the 28th. Typing hasn't been way up there on my list of Favourite Things To Do lately. The Beetle's victory has been over-shadowed by his competitor's string of unfortunate bad breaks. An unforseen, unexplained, and senseless trip to Florida was certainly a setback, but it was quickly returned to the Buffalo, N. Y. area where it has remained in the same cache for 126 days, only 19 miles from its destination!! I'm afraid the current political situation has made the public wary of crossing international boundaries, and, no doubt, this has been a contributing factor in the Mustang's extended pit stop. The beetle traveled 4034 miles in order to cover the 2176 miles from start to finish, largely due to his Dance in the Desert, but when you realize it's an average of roughly 11.5 miles per day, it's not all that bad. Many thanks to all those who helped the beetle along, especially TeamBlunder, WeatherGuy, Breakaway, and, of course, Bunnie, for their creative photographs. I think the real victory here was in the spirit of international friendship and co-operation.
Bunnie, Gear Boy, & Pretty in Pink, thank you for competing in the race, and, if the Mustang hasn't reached Flick's First by the anniversary of his release (April 11), I'm going to personally go get him!!!
Thanks again, everyone!!!
