Schneider National Inc., North America's largest truckload carrier, Saturday morning announced its sponsorship of the Dennis Shoemaker-owned NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division team with driver Dick Trickle for the 1998 season.

Trickle is scheduled to compete in all but six of the NASCAR Busch Series events in 1998 The team, however, will compete in all 30 races, with a fill-in driver to be named for the races in which Trickle has a conflict with his NASCAR Winston Cup Series team.

Shoemaker and Trickle hooked up a little less than two years ago, and the combination has proven to be a most successful one. Despite Trickle missing two races due to conflicts with his NASCAR Winston Cup team, he finished 14th in the series standings in 1997 with seven top-5 finishes in 28 starts. That included his first career NASCAR Busch Series victory, at Hickory, N.C.

Schneider is based out of Green Bay, Wis. The 56-year-old Trickle, who drives the No. 90 Helig-Myers Ford in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and who has over 1,200 short track victories during his racing career, is a native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Schneider's big orange trucks are a familiar sight on the highway. Our job is to carry their highway leadership onto the speedways where we're going to make sure the drivers for Schneider have a front-running race car every week. When you've got the industry leader as a sponsor, we'd better be leaders on the race track, too.
