FRANCE OR BUST!! The goal for this bug is to be photographed at the actual Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. After that (or on the way) it can be photographed at other war memorials and sent on its way.
This is the first of eight travel bugs Santa brought Graham and Dean on Christmas 2011. The boys want to learn about famous places all over the world, and the Arc de Triomphe TB is the first one to hit the road.
The Arc de Triomphe is a monument to France's soldiers from the (French) Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and under it sits the Tomb of the Unknown Solider from World War I. Graham thought it was interesting that the large vault is 48 feet wide and 95 feet high -- big enough for Charles Godefroy to fly his Nieuport biplane through it in 1919, three weeks after the Paris victory parade!
Graham (6) and Dean (3 1/2) are interested in learning about the world through maps, geography, cultures, measuring and math. The Arc de Triomphe is approximately 3,696 miles away from our home in upstate New York; it will be interesting to find out how many miles the TB needs to travel to achieve its goal!
