In 1824 George Smith started a legacy in scotch whisky through The Glenlivet which has lasted a lifetime. This geocoin offers the chance to discover new and exciting legacies throughout the globe.
To celebrate the pioneering spirit of The Glenlivet’s iconic founder, George Smith, the creator of the first legal single malt whisky, we have created The Glenlivet Legacy Trail geocoins to encourage geocachers to discover iconic founding fathers, pioneers and landmarks throughout the world.
When George Smith set up the first legitimate distillery in Glenlivet in 1824, he was well versed in the art of distilling and he knew his whisky was a superior product. .The local smugglers knew it too and threatened to kill him. Smith set out on many adventure loading the whisky on ponies and crossing the River Livet under the cover of darkness. His spirit of adventure has safeguarded a legacy which has shaped malt whisky which is enjoyed across the world by millions of devotees. The Glenlivet Legacy Trail geocoins offer the ideal way to pass on this legacy.
