Alces Alces

Here are a few fun moose facts:
- they are powerful swimmers just days after being born and they can dive 5.5 meters or more to reach plants at the bottom of the lake
- they are the largest members of the deer family
- the moose gets its humped appearance from its deep and incredibly muscled shoulders
- moose have a bell; a piece of fur-covered skin about 30 cm long that hangs from their throats
- adult bulls shed their antlers in November but younger bulls can carry them until April
- moose can be found in the forests from the eastern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador to the border of Alaska
- the moose's eyesight is poor however they have a great sense of hearing and smell

They are also a relative of the great Canadian cheesemoose who is quite a bit bigger, a whole lot scarier and feed on government surplus cheese (from what I hear).  The goal of this coin (at least for the time being) is to discover various foraging grounds with waterzoo and meet new cachers along the way.  Perhaps one day alces alces will become less shy and begin exploring on its own...

This is MY first Geocoin which was earned by finding an awesome FTF (GC3YJN9)  which made me jump at first as it was travelling on the back of a very realistic looking rubber snake.  The first coin I received was a twin and had already been registered however the CO was awesome enough to trade for this one which I could track myself. It is a Toronto 2006 coin with the CN Tower and the Roger's center on one side and on the flip side there is a moose (Alces Alces) sporting a blue maple leaf and standing next to an ammo box (I'm beginning to suspect that they may be planning a secret revenge hunting excursion!!). Rogedd
