Just to be Discovered and Enjoyed by other while on its travels with us at team Philatryewood.
I was given this Geocoin for a Gift for Christmas 2012, and is the perfect Reminder for us of the Holiday we had, Just after we were Married, in Florida, USA
We were Lucky Enough to Witness the Launch of the Space Shuttle at Kennedy Space Centre of the Mission STS-86.
I remember that we caught a Bus out to Cape Canaveral and the closest anyone could get was 2 miles away so we went to a place called Titusville, just the other side of the Indian River, where we had a perfect view across to the Launch pad and the Shuttle just sitting there with some huge spot lights illuminating the Shuttle up.
The Mission of STS-86 was carried out by the Space Shuttle Alantis and Launched from Pad 39A on 25th September 1997 at 10.34.19 pm EDT.
The Mission lasted 10 days 19 hours 22m and 12 seconds and in this time the Shuttle covered 170 Orbits of the Earth at 184 miles above us and travelled 4,300,000 miles.
The Shuttle was on a mission to the Mir Space Station to change a crew member, refresh supplys and carried a SPACEHAB double module for docking with Mir.
This was to be Alantis's last mission before it undertook Maintenance and Upgrades including a new Glass Cockpit.
