The mission is to stay in my possession to be 'discovered' unless/until I gift it to someone for reasons described below. I hope friends and fellow geocachers will report seeing this as it travels with me, especially to a favorite place in May.
I live in Nebraska and my first love was military history which drew my attention to this coin. I also visit Ft. Robinson several times a year including an annual youth retreat known as "Higher Ground" which has been held at Ft. Robinson for many, many years. The 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments (Buffalo Soldiers honored on the coin) served at Fort Robinson. Their members included 10 African-American Medal of Honor recipients, the second African American graduate of West Point, and the first African-American chaplain in the US Army. As a veteran (USMC), father of a veteran (USAF), Nebraskan, and a lay ecclesial minister who also 'serves' at Fort Robinson State Park on occasion I had to have the coin, but I also have to keep it. I would like the people who see it to log in to honor the courage of those Buffalo Soldiers who fought for the United States and against prejudice that still is an issue in our country.
