Saturday 3rd November 2012 we went six Danish geocachers, divided in two cars filled with geocaching equipment from Copenhagen to Gothenburg to participate in FAD2012. Our goal was
also find some of the great, big, old or unusual caches along the way towards
north on Saturday, and on the way home Sunday. The 6 on the tour was; Picht, Elmbæk, Schuleit in the
black car and Lysthøj, Aaquist and signed in the white car.
In total, we found about 40 caches. Some caches were there any of us who had previously
found, and on the way home we were 3 who found an extra on the Danish side.
On the way to Gothenburg, it was a really bad weather, so we stopped only a few times
to find some caches in size Large, unfortunately there are not many. We also studied the conditions for a virtual, so it got resolved in association with FAD.
After we were registered at the event we drove to the city again and checked into the hotel. Then we logged the local webcam cache. A very expensive visit. We were away from the cars in 10 minutes. The white car had bought a parking ticket for 10 kr, the black got a parking ticket for 400 SEK. On top of that came the webcam did not work properly!
Traffic in Gothenburg is a chapter of its own. It's totally fucked. Car gps is completely useless. Wwhen it says that about 800 meters you have to keep right on the highway, there are 2 places in the 800 meters where you have to keep to the left. And then bother I did not describe how the traffic is on the subordinate road, but one way, "straight" lanes that suddenly turns into turn lanes and road making that you can not do it the way the GPS indicates. I dare not think of what it's like on weekdays, but can understand that the introduction of a congestion charge. It's almost a wonder that we both found hotel and took back home!
FAD has evolved in recent years, but from Denmark, it was a little strange construction. Finding caches without being able to log it on Geocaching.com. We would give it a try., and it was GREAT. A large collection of amazing innovative "?" caches which for obvious reasons was not really suitable as permanent caches. From laser gun to telephones and televisions with coordinates of puzzles, magnets and rope
for caches where you have to find balance, or cycling! Absolutely fantastic. We found "Only" 3 of the general caches that can aggregate information, but in addition it was also a wherigo of event space. The event was well organized, with food as the only criticism point. It was the weekend's worst burger, and I know what I'm talking about because I ate burgers for 4 meals over the weekend! The transfer of caches to GPS devices was nothing less than brilliant!
I had a unique experience when we met several teams deaf geocachers in the woods. They had even more challenges than us, because sign language is not so smart in the dark!
The Danish participation in the event was lovely great and it was nice also to greet the Jutland geocachers who had come from Frederikshavn.
Sunday we went around in Gothenburg and found a number of caches with many favorite points before heading south again. On the way home we found some slightly more challenging caches, as well as some with many favorite points.
