Thumbs the USB Travel Penguin

My mission is to travel the world and collect a piece of each caher's life.

Thumbs is a 4 gig USB flash drive that gives you the chance to add a little something of yourself to its travels.  Cachers are encouraged to add anything they wish to drive; stories, jokes, pics, your favorite song or anything else of interest to you.  Feel free to look thru any of the documents contained on the drive, but please do not delete or modify any other cacher’s contribution!

In addition, anyone who feels inclined to do so is encouraged to zip the contents of the drive and send them to me at [leucippus1608 at gmail dot com] (or contact me for an alternative method).  If you include your cache handle, I’ll make sure to update the “contributors” section of the bug with your name, date, and link to the snapshot of the drive I’ll host for everyone to see.

If you find the bug and the drive is completely full, I ask you to do one of two things.  Either continue its travels without modification, or zip the entire drive and email it to me (or contact me for an alternative method).  At that point, I’d appreciate you wait for confirmation from me, then format the drive, and send it on its way.  I’ll post links in this description of the latest copies of data retrieved from the drive.

If you find the bug and the drive is unreadable, please contact me – I’d be happy to send out a replacement drive you can attach to the bug prior to its next drop.

Now, a word of caution; I have a lot of faith in our caching community and believe that no ill intent would befall this project, but I do recommend because of the public nature of this device, you are running a file-level virus scanner prior to connecting to the drive.  Remember, when you plug this drive into your PC, you are plugging into every PC this drive has ever been plugged into.  Be Safe!

Oh, one more thing; please employ a level of common sense when adding files to the drive.  Remember, cachers include people of all ages from all walks of life!  Obviously, copyrighted materials are discouraged, but I’m especially concerned with any sort of hateful or threatening speech, images, or other multimedia.  Be nice, keep it clean, and add something to the project we can all enjoy.  If you discover any material you find highly objectionable, please contact me before doing anything with the data.

PS - a copy of this description is available on the drive (!readme.txt).  As the bug makes it around, feel free to translate the readme into your native language (and create a copy of the readme with a reference to the language in its name - !readme_fr.txt for example).  I'll give you contributuion credit if you email me letting me know you added the translated document.
