Pegasus, das geflügelte Pferd, war das Kind des Meeresgottes Poseidon und der Gorgone Medusa. Betreffend seiner Geburt gibt es zwei Versionen. In der einen entsprang Pegasus aus dem Nacken der Medusa, als diese von Perseus geköpft wurde. In der andern entspringt er der Erde an jener Stelle, auf die das Blut der Medusa tropfte.
Nachdem Pegasus zusammen mit dem griechischen Helden Bellerophon viele Abenteuer überstanden hatte kehrte er auf dem Olymp zurück, um den Göttern zu helfen. Später wurde er in ein Sternbild verwandelt.
Pegasus, the winged horse, was a child of the god Posseidon and the Gorgon Medusa. There are two versions about his birth. In one of them Pegasus sprang out of the neck of Medusa when she was decapitated by Perseus. The other version says that he came out of the earth just on the spot where the blood of Medusa was dropping down.
After experiencing and surviving a lot of adventures together with the Greek hero Bellerophon Pegasus returned to the Olymp in case for aiding the gods. Later he was transferred into a star constellation.
