About This Item

New Hampshire, USA has 48 mountains over 4,000' (1,200 m) high.  Since 1957, the Appalachian Mountain Club has awarded nearly 10,000 hikers admission to the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club for climbing all 48 peaks in a lifetime.

Mt. Moriah (4,049' or 1,234 m) is the eastern-most of NH's 4,000' moutains, and the one farthest north on the Appalachian Trail.  (Mt. Cabot is farther north, but is not on the Appalachian Trail.)  Mt. Moriah is part of the Carter-Moriah range.  It's summit and upper approaches are all bare rock, giving it wonderful views, including the Presidentials to the west and the Carter Range to the south.  Moriah is the name of a biblical mountain where Isaac was asked to sacrifice his son.  The nearby Black Angel Trail may be related to Mt. Moriah.

One common route up Moriah is the relatively gentle Carter-Moriah Trail south from Gorham, NH.  This hike is 9.0 miles roundtrip with 3,550' of climb.  The other is to take the Stony Brook Trail to the Carter-Moriah Trail (a section of the Appalachian Trail.  This hike is 10 miles with 3,150' of climb, including some steep upper sections.  You can also combine the two approaches, but that requires spotting a car or walking a couple miles along a road.  The traverse is a hike of 9.5 miles, not including the road walk.

My apologies for the late log; I had a TB that I wanted to drop. As it turned out, the cache that I wanted to drop it in had this TB inside it so it’s only fair for me to make a TB exchange
