New Hampshire, USA has 48 mountains over 4,000' (1,200 m) high. Since 1957, the Appalachian Mountain Club has awarded nearly 10,000 hikers admission to the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club for climbing all 48 peaks in a lifetime.
Mt. Waumbek (4,006' or 1,221 m) is the highest mountain in the Pliny Range in northern New Hampshire. In the Algonquin language, waumbek means white rocks. Since there is no view from the summit of the mountain, it is usually climbed only by "peak-baggers".
The most common route is the Starr King Trail from Jefferson, NH. It is a hike of 7.2 miles roundtrip with 2,650' of climb. It passes over Mt. Starr King, which does have views. It is considered one of the easiest 4,000'ers to summit.
