Nordberg Fort
 Nordberg Fort was a part of the WW2 German occupational forces in Norway. It was established as a naval fort in 1942, as a part of "Festung Lista" protecting the flat coastline of the Lista-area against a possible allied invasion. 15 of the wooden barracks at the site are original and for the most part intact both outside and inside, and therefore the area and buildings are under the heritage act. The three canons (150 mm) at the fort were meant to bombard enemy-ships approaching the coastline. You will not find the canons there today, only their positions, the trenches, bunkers and of course the barracks.
 
Today the area is a popular place to visit, and in itself a recreational area with fantastic view over the flat Lista-landscape and the ocean. You can visit the museum of West-Agder Lista and see exhibitions on archeology and art, have a snack or a coffee, and get a guided tour on the area. On the guided tour you get to see the well preserved murals inside the officers mess. See the webpages for opening hours. From Nordberg you can hike the six kilometer trail to the magic Lista Lighthouse, passing through one of Norway's oldest and most beautiful cultural landscapes. Along this path, less than ten minute's walk from Nordberg, you find the stone carvings at Penne, just one of a number of impressive archeological sites in this area.
 

 

Coast Alive
Coast Alive is an EU-project under Interreg IVB North Sea Programme, which shall inspire and develop outdoor activities in the North Sea Region. The project supports the establishing of active and authentic experiences connected to nature, the landscape and the cultural heritage in the area.

Coast Alive is a partnership between 14 regions from 5 countries around the North Sea. The project builds on the great experiences and results of two previous North Sea projects – the North Sea Trail and the North Sea Cycle Route – a walking trail and a cycle route around the North Sea coast. In total almost 12.000 km of paths along the North Sea coast in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, England and Scotland.

Coast Alive is about using the trails for recreational purposes – all year round and as often as possible! It is about preserving our cultural heritage and making accessible the North Sea Region’s riches of authentic experiences. It is about developing outdoor life, marketing the opportunities and attracting new visitors. But it is also about developing the coastal areas economically, improving the quality and number of facilities along the trails, and to strengthen the region’s reputation as a leading supplier of active outdoor experiences.
