This shiny geocoin is a life-size replica of the sharp serrated tooth of a Great White shark.
It wants to travel along coastal areas where these sharks might be seen: Cape Cod, California, Mexico, Chile, Hawaii, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and the Mediterranean.
Ideal water temp 54-75°F | 12-24°C. Proximity to favorite foods like seals, tuna, and dead whales.
We live on Cape Cod, in between Martha's Vineyard (where "Jaws" was filmed) and the beaches of the Cape's "elbow" (where cool currents and abundant seals offer an attractive habitat). Although sightings of Great Whites occur regularly, Cape Cod hasn't recorded a shark attack since 1936.*
Fee is fascinated by sharks! Her favorite movie is "Finding Nemo" (with Bruce the Shark, not coincidentally the same moniker given to Steven Spielberg's animatronic prop in 1975).
*Unfortunate update: One week before we launched this geocoin, a swimmer was bitten by one of nine Great Whites being tracked off the coast this summer. Though regarding that fatal 1936 attack: it happened in Buzzard's Bay off New Bedford, which hardly counts as "Cape Cod", and it was a tiger shark anyway.
