About This Item

Hiking Boot TB

New Hampshire, USA has 48 mountains over 4,000' (1,200 m) high. Since 1957, the Appalachian Mountain Club has awarded nearly 10,000 hikers admission to the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club for climbing all 48 peaks in a lifetime.

North Tripyramid Mt. (4,180' or 1,270 m) is one of the three peaks of Mt. Tripyramid. The north and middle peaks are on the 4,000' list. South Tripyramid rises less than 200' from the col between it and Middle Tripyramid, not enough climb to warrent being a separate peak. The mile-long summit ridge is part of the Sandwich Range and the name comes from the three distinct peaks.

There are three common dayhiking routes up the mountain, ranging somewhat in difficulty. The classic route is to take the Mt. Tripyramid Trail from Waterville Valley. While a portion of this trail is a wooded path, it ascends North Tripyramid on the North Slide, an exposed climb on rock slabs which should not be attempted in wet or icy weather. It crosses the ridge from North to Middle Tripyramid before descending on the South Slide, another steep, exposed section. This trail is 11 miles roundtrip with 3,000' of climb. A safer route is to take the Scaur Ridge Trail to the Pine Bend Brook Trail, and descend from Middle Tripyramid on the Mt. Tripyramid Trail over the South Slide. This hike is 12.1 miles roundtrip with the same 3,000' of climb. A shorter approach is to take the Pine Bend Brook Trail from the north to the summit of North Tripyramid, then follow the ridge to Middle Tripyramid and return the same way. This roundtrip is 9.6 miles with 3,450' of climb, some on very steep, but wooded, sections.
