To meet up with my good friend Stof in Belgium, at the "Vijgen na Pasen" geocache (GC127CN)
I am the first generation on my mother's side of the family to be born in America. My grandparents met in South Africa. My Grandmother a French speaking Belgian, and my Grandfather a flemish speaking Belgian. I still have family in Braaschaat, and Liege. Somewhere in between there is Hasselt, the general area to which this travelbug is trying to get to, to be picked up by my dear friend and flemish tutor Kristof.
This is my first and most important travelbug. For now, it goes ahead of me, but one day I would like to go to belgium myself, and eat steak and fries and waffles and see the places where my grandparents grew up. My grandfather was 10 when WWII started, I remember stories of the skies being black with planes, and my grandmother's family having to go into hiding, because my great grandfather was Belgian Police. The cache I have chosen as the destination is placed in an area riddles with bomb craters from WWII, its story is printed on the page of the cache. I thought it was a wonderful coincidence that this was in a good area to be used as my destination cache!
Attatched to this Travelbug is a keychain for my Bompa. His name was Andre, and I think it would be nice to send at least a memory of him back to the country he came from.
