I am an 3 pence piece from the "Old Money" we used to use in Great Britain and
Northern Ireland before Decimilization in the 1970's.
I would like to travel around the world to look at the different Money that exists out there, to the Euro from Eurozone and the Baht from Thailand. The Escudos of Portugal ( Oh that's extinct now) and the Pesos of Mexico to the trading shells of some of the tribes of Africa and Amazonia and the dollars of Australia.
Some Currencies have been around since the beginning of "Man" and some just since the beginning of Globalisation.
Wouldn't it be fun to to be able to send message and Pictures to "Eeekamaus" and all our friends of my travels and discoveries. Before all of theCurrencies of the World become "ONE".
Now lets hope I get further than Dover and Back.
Do me proud GeoCachers and I may line your palm with Silver ![[8D] [8D]](/images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif)
The Brass Threepence, minted for some 30 or so years, between 1937 and 1970. Coming after four centuries of silver threepence coins, this was the last and very different threepence design prior to the eventual demonetisation of the value in 1971.
PleaseThe new coin design originated from the brief reign of Edward VIII, but it was not until the reign of King George VI that it became legal tender and entered everyday circulation.
Strictly speaking the metal of this coin is Nickel-Brass rather than normal brass, being an alloy of 79% copper, 20% zinc & 1% nickel. The new ‘threepenny bit’ was the first British coin to be made from this gold coloured alloy and was also the first non-circular coin to be introduced into our coinage.
Having 12 sides, it was dodecagonal in shape, with a diameter of 21mm across the
flats and an eventual weight of 6.8g.
The name “threepence” was pronounced differently across the country, being variouslycalled a ‘thruppence’, ‘throopence’, ‘threppence’ ‘thruppnee bit’, ‘throopnee bit, or ‘threppnee bit.’
Please post lots of Photo's of the places I stay......
