The traditional group dance of Madeira Island (Portugal) is known as "Bailinho da Madeira" or simply as "Bailinho". This travelbug holds two dancers dressed with regional costumes who wish to travel and dance around the world.
Can you perform this dance?
The female costume had several variations according to the locality where they lived or their marital status but it is defined predominantly by red. The skirt was made of wool, single color or listed, with a vest or red bodice and a blue cap.
The male costume only differs in two ways: (1) white shorts and shirt, with a red belt and a blue cap or (2) brown jacket and trousers, with a brown cap made of sheep wool. This second version was worn by men who lived in the colder localities or in mountains.
