Many of Vader's early missions were ordered by the Emperor himself, who did so not only to test the limits of his crippled apprentice's abilities, but to keep him from wallowing in self pity over his wife's death. These early missions included slaying a group of Jedi Knights and a trip to the planet Kashyyyk to oversee the enslavement of the Wookiees.
